How many calories does my cat need a day?
It depends on weight and life stage. We use the veterinary RER formula (70 × weight in kg ^ 0.75) and multiply by a factor for neutered, intact, active, weight-loss or kitten status to estimate daily calories.
Should I split it into meals?
Yes. Most cats do well with two to three measured meals a day. Check your cat food label for calories per cup or can, then divide the daily target accordingly.
Is this a substitute for a vet?
No — this is a helpful estimate. Always confirm your cat's ideal weight and feeding plan with your veterinarian, especially for kittens, seniors or cats with health conditions.
